TRAFFIC STATISTICS ARE CRITICAL
IF YOU WANT TO EARN MORE
FOR DOING LESS

Are you taking a shotgun approach to your marketing?

One of the biggest mistakes online marketers make is not knowing what traffic sources convert to sales. If you don't track where your sales come from and concentrate on the sources that bring in the most traffic that convert to sales; you will be losing money  and creating unneccessary work.

The Techniques in Google Traffic work I have used them over and over again to earn money from numerous affiliate programs and rank my sites at will for keywords I target. The important word in that phrase is target you want to concentrate on the best keywords that bring in the dollars. You also want to concentrate on the best traffic sources that convert the highest for your product or service.

Let me put it another way many webmasters think more traffic equals more sales here is a question I want you to ask yourself which would you prefer?

Have your site...

Rank for 1000 keywords that brings in 50 000 visitors to your site a month and makes 100 sales
or rank for 50 keywords that brings in 2000 visitors and makes 250 sales. You can exchange the word sales with Adsense clicks, newsletter signups or any other goal you count as a successful conversion.

The answer is easy the keywords that make the most sales with the less amount of traffic gives the best results.

Another angle is in Google Traffic I explained how Google looks at transactional web pages the conversion ratio of these pages plays a significant role in how the pages are ranked. Google wants its search users to have their queries meet if that query is to buy a product or service the web pages that have the highest conversions meet the query the best.

We see Google apply this in adwords and reward high converting pages with lower pay per click prices and higher listings in the sponsored results. In the natural search Google rewards higher converting web pages with better search listings in their search index.

In Google Traffic we list several traffic sources for different sites these will convert at different ratios and there are a number of variables for why this is so. Here are a few of the main variables to consider.

  • Different sites appeal to different demographics including Age, Sex and location. Education levels and type of employment are also important factors.
  • Your products or services will appeal to different demographics.
  • The type of content you use to send traffic through to your site will convert at different ratios.
  • Your sales copy content and graphics are important factors too its important to test different ways of promoting your products and how you presell them.
So how do we find out which sites and content sends the best converting traffic for our services, products etc.

We can use two tools and these will work with not only monitoring free traffic sources but any pay per click providers you use. Two of the better options are also free.

I use a statistics counter to monitor my incoming traffic, duration of visits and the traffic source that brought them in.  Some of them provide more data than awstats and you can quickly find which traffic sources are bringing in the best volume of traffic. This is one of the better Free Traffic Statistics counter providers that is highly reliable.

The second tool I use is Google Analytics  combined with website optimiser Some webmasters worry about using Google to having access to data about how well their site performs. This is not neccessary Google already knows from data they collect using other sources and I keypoint some of these in Google Traffic, more importantly the information gained can lead to better conversions and as a result better rankings. Remember Google's main focus for their search index is to provide the best page to match the search query

Google Analytics provides detailed information that is invaluble and if acted upon will lead to higher conversions and tell you where you need to make changes. You can see which sites traffic came from which resulted in a successful conversion. You can also monitor which keywords you are paying for in ppc click campaigns that are converting to sales. Google Analytics makes it easy to intergrate your adwords campaigns into your Analytics account.

You can then elimate all the keywords you bid on that don't convert and use the savings to increase your position in the listing by increasing your bids for keywords that do convert. This will bring in more  sales with less spent thus increasing your profit margin. By doing this optimization your quality score for your campaign will increase as you your conversion ratios will improve.

Website Optimiser is another free service Google supplies that will give you recommendations of changes you need to make to your pages to achieve better conversions.
